Tonight

If I could wish for anything, it would definitely be more time to work on my personal projects. Until then, I’ll just stay up really late sometimes embroidering until my fingers ache. This is going to take some time!

Sketchbook Project 2012

I think I won’t be able to get much done in my sketchbook until winter break because this quarter has been so crazy! At any rate, here are a few pages!

One Little, Two Little, Three Little Ugly Birds . . .

This is becoming a small-ish painting. It currently looks more like this:

One of my friends back home was attempting to rush paint some matryoshka doll artwork for me because she’s awesome, but wasn’t able to finish before I actually visited. Anyway, I was kind of enamored with her elaborate designs & was like, ” I wanna try!”

But of course, my drawing style differs greatly from this friend of mine so I kind of put the want aside for a while thinking it would be far too complicated & time consuming & something I would botch up. Then there was one day when I was doodling pictures of penguins in my journal which of course morphed into ugly birds. & Then there were many ugly birds of various sizes & you can see how things went from there! Anyway, this one has been so fun to work on that I’ve been working quite slowly. I almost never want it to be finished!

Refusing to be Merely “Inspired”

So remember when I got a Pinterest account & was like, “oh, I hope this doesn’t ruin my productivity”? Well, nothing can! Unfortunately there is this thing about bookmarking things where sometimes those links turn bad after a while. However, the image using abilities of Pinterest meant that I was able to stare at a picture still.

There was a little picture of these cute crocheted pillows & I thought maybe I would use a pattern, but since the link died, I remembered that inventing a square-like pattern is not hard. Expect this to be attached to a pillow soon!

Leave it Be & Walk Away

Okay, enough of this hand! I am forcing myself to just knock it off already. Moving on to the balloons . . .

Layers

Sometimes when I’m painting things, I tend to get really hung up on making a zillion layers with just very subtle changes in colors. Combining this with the fact that I really like drawing hands means I have spent way more time on this for how not close to being done it is. Haven’t even started the other canvas!

Fill in the Blanks

Well this picture was actually taken quite some time ago, but I am taking my time on this one (these two) & really haven’t done much else!

So it Begins

So I was all, “Hmmm maybe I will make this a painting” & since I had caught a cold earlier which left me unable to fabric shop, I found myself unable to further sew, but definitely able to paint. Or draw again. But bigger! I intentionally made the hand quite larger than the balloons because I wanted to imaginary see this through to how I would hang it if I were to ever do so (which 99% most likely, I won’t). I decided I would like them to be far away from one another. Of course the hand would be what you see up close since balloons are much lighter, not attached to a body, and will place great distance between themselves & the ground pretty quickly.

But I guess I feel more free seeing an open hand than to see balloons making an escape. Balloons are just doing what they do because of physics & nature. The person behind the hand made a decision to release and to let go.

 

Coming Together

My favorite part! When you are sewing something & it starts to take shape. A really ill fitting shape that needs lots of work, but hey, a dress-like shape nonetheless!

This is nothing like what I had in mind, but the lightness of this fabric felt so wonderful & pushed my brain to daydreaming of the possibilities of summer. So I need to buy some fabric to line this sheer thing as well as notions. Then I must continue sewing away until it actually looks presentable/wearable! Now that my bank cards are back in order, I’ll definitely be spending my next day off in a fabric store.
