Where This Bird Grew Up

January 6, 2011 § 5 Comments

There’s some kind of special magic in my hometown. I don’t know where it comes from. Maybe it is in the dirt. Or in the water that melts down from the mountains into the valley in the spring. It could be the hum of all the ghosts left behind from all of us who spent time there or a result of being in close proximity from something as beautiful as Yosemite.

I don’t know what it is, but I know the place where I grew up is unique. I am so glad to have grown up there even though it’s the type of place that gets looked over. It isn’t a city that usually receives love letters.

I don’t think I will ever move back, but I know I will always visit. The central valley will always be special to me.

Ooh, I’ve never been to Yosemite, but indeed you are very lucky if you live that close!!

i know what you should do about it: mt. wilson! (or any of the myriad nature-y places near you) learn to love the nature around you. there is a surprising amount of good nature in the LA area. and you probably already know this, but our man leonard cohen spent some time at the zen center on mt. baldy, also not far from you.
i finally figured out that you don’t need to be some kind of member or anything to comment here…

I feel like a lot of people here just hike on fire roads because that’s all they have which is weird. At any rate, I need to find a hiking buddy (I think you still hold #1 favorite spot since you don’t get all in a tiff when I go off trail) because I really really miss it! Come to LA?

& kudos on figuring out commenting! It can be misleading as many comments I receive are in fact, from other bloggers. Remember when we first met & I was all, “come look at my livejournal so I can impress you with my wit & ~artistic~ things”? Those were the days.
